Calculus

What is Calculus?

Calculus is the mathematics of change.  There are two basic forms of calculus.  The first that we will study are rates of change, mainly considering how quickly a function changes.  The second form of calculus is to consider how values accumulate considering a function that gives the rate of change.

In both of these forms of calculus, the ideas of algebra and geometry will be extended through the use of limits.  A limit allows students to consider what happens to functions as values change rather than just considering one single value.  The limit could be considered the single most important discovery in mathematics.
