The Lutheran High School of Kansas City welcomes international students to enroll at our school. International students have long been an integral part of life at The Lutheran High School of Kansas City. We were established in 1980, celebrated our first graduating class in 1983, and hosted our first international student in 1985. The Lutheran High School of Kansas City has welcomed international students from China, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, France, Italy, Egypt, Pakistan, Chile, Gambia, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The long history of working with international students gives us a unique perspective. We understand that international students want to enjoy a truly American experience while continuing to learn and be challenged academically.
The Lutheran High School of Kansas City provides international students with a Christ-centered environment. We offer a college preparatory curriculum, which includes Dual Credits. International students have the opportunity to participate in athletics and co-curricular activities. Students are immersed in the American culture. Students either stay with family and friends or a host family. The Lutheran High School of Kansas City assists international students with finding a host family. Students' develop English language skills at school and in the home stay environment.
The Lutheran High School of Kansas City offers many opportunities for international students to develop strong relationships with peers and faculty, participate in community service projects, develop time-management skills, learn responsibility and develop leadership skills. Life in Kansas City
Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Kansas City had an estimated population of 491,918 in 2018, making it the 38th most populated city in the United States. It is the central city of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Kansas City was founded in the 1830's as a Missouri River port. Missouri's western boundary is Kansas. Kansas City is the 23rd largest city by total area in the United States. Major suburbs include Liberty, Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Grandview, Overland Park, Olathe, Leawood and Kansas City.
Kansas City has several great neighborhoods which include, Downtown Kansas City, Brookside, Crown Center, the River Market District, the 18th and Vine District, Union Station, Country Club Plaza, Garment District and the Power and Light District.
Kansas City is easy to explore! In July 2005, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) developed the bus rapid transit line, called the Metro Area Express (MAX). The Metro Area Express (MAX) links the River Market, Downtown, Union Station, Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza. In 2013, Kansas City built a street car that runs between the River Market and Union Station. Also, the Kansas City, Missouri voters overwhelmingly approved a new single terminal at the Kansas City International Airport (MCI)! The single, state of the art terminal opened in February 2023.
Kansas City also has great attractions! Kansas City has The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Worlds of Fun, Kansas City Zoo, National WWI Museum, Sea Life Aquarium, Arabia Steamboat Museum, Union Station, Kauffman Stadium, Negro League Baseball Museum, Science City, African American Baseball Museum, American Jazz Museum, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City Public Library, and the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts. Kansas City has so much to offer!
Kansas City has four professional sports teams. The Kansas City Chiefs Football Team, The Royals Baseball Team, The Sporting Kansas City men's soccer team and The Kansas City Current women's soccer team.
Kansas City has several major universities. The University of Missouri Kansas City, Rockhurst University, Avila University, University of Kansas, Baker University, Park University, Webster University, Kansas City University, Kansas City Art Institute, and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
