The Office of School & College Counseling maintains academic standards for The Lutheran High School of Kansas City. The Office of School & College Counseling is provided on an ongoing basis to assist students in setting goals for academic achievement and share resources to help students and families plan for post-high school.
The Office of School & College Counseling assists students in the following ways:
- Host an annual College & Career Fair at LHS during the school day for all students and an annual College & Career Informational Night for parents of juniors and seniors.
- Schedule visits from college representatives to meet with students individually and attend these meetings during the school day with our students to help them better understand the college process and advocate for their needs.
- Provide college information, such as how to complete a college application, apply for financial aid, and apply for scholarships.
- Provide information on the Dual College Credit program and prepare students for a rigorous high school and college education.
- Plan and prepare for the fall school day PSAT and spring school day ACT.
- Assist students in developing a college and career portfolio, which includes grades, scores on the PSAT and ACT, examples of student work, and a cover letter and resume. Invite students to create an account with SCOIR to help with their college or career planning journey.
- Provide a Winterim course for juniors that focuses on college and career exploration, along with ACT prep work.
- Coordinate individual 504 Plans for educational accommodations for students with documented learning needs.
- Nominate qualified students for a variety of academic and leadership training summer programs: MO Scholars Academy, MO Leadership Seminar, and MO Boys and Girls State.
